Q: What is WorldCraftsSM and when did it start?
A: WorldCrafts, begun in 1996, is a nonprofit entity that imports more than 300 different items from countries around the world. It currently supports more than 60 artisan groups and their families.
Q: What's the purpose of WorldCrafts?
A: First, it assists women and men who live in poverty by providing income to them. Second, it helps personnel establish relationships with the craftspeople. Finally, it provides creative way to buy meaningful gifts that change lives.
Q: How much of the money goes back to the person who made the item?
A: The fact is, it varies. WorldCrafts pays whatever wholesale price our local contact says covers all of the materials costs and provides a fair wage in that economy. We pay this amount up front when we receive the order. If the items sell well, we are able to reorder and provide the people with more income.
Q: Can I browse and/or order products off-line, or can I download a catalog?
A: You can now download our product catalog in PDF format. A printable order form is also available. Orders may be placed through our online store or by calling Customer Service at 1-800-968-7301.
Q: What is a WorldCrafts event and who conducts it?
A: A WorldCrafts event is a fun way to feature WorldCrafts in your association, group, or neighborhood. A volunteer host or hostess organizes the WorldCrafts event using the information provided online, provided in the “Events” section.
Q: When can events be held?
A: WorldCrafts events can be held any time during the year. The months of August through October are the very best months to have a pre-Christmas party. Please remember that these items are handmade and require lots of time to produce, so please order early!
Q: How can I support WorldCrafts without having an event?
A: You can order a free catalog for yourself or several for your friends. Every purchase from the catalog helps to provide hope for artisans worldwide. To order a catalog, contact Customer Service at 1-800-968-7301 or email WorldCrafts@wmu.org with your mailing address.
You may also choose to give a tax-deductible contribution to the Jackson/Reese Endowment online or by calling the WMU Foundation toll-free at 1-877-482-4483.
Q: What if I do not like what I ordered or if it is damaged when I receive it?
A: WorldCrafts guarantees your satisfaction! If you are not satisfied for any reason, simply return your product with a copy of your original packing slip marked "RETURN" and you will be given a full refund.
Q: Whom should I contact for further information?
A: Please email the WorldCrafts team at WorldCrafts@wmu.org
